All of us have dates that are important to us. Dates that signify important moments in our life journey: days that mark the death of a loved one and days of joyous occasions like our birthday, the birth of a child, or an anniversary. These are all opportunities to sit back and remember something special about the person or event. For example May 23rd was the 24th Anniversary of my mother’s death and June 2nd was my 27th Anniversary as a priest. Now besides wondering where all the time has gone the anniversary of my mom’s death was once again an opportunity for me to remember the Gift that she was. One of the things I most vividly remember her telling me as I was studying for the Priesthood was if I was going to be a priest to be a good one! I have tried to honor this wish as a way of honoring her. As we all look back over those important dates and events in our lives, may we be able to recall the joy of the occasion, the promises that we made to others and ourselves, and the overwhelming thankfulness we felt for this person being in our lives. May these feelings give direction to all areas of our lives.
God’s continued peace!
