Dear Friends, as many of you know I will be leaving on Tuesday, September 29th for a two month sabbatical in Rome where I will be gathering with 50 other pries from around the United States to spend 8 weeks reflecting on the importance of meaningful homilies and how to share the Good News of our Faith with our brothers and sisiters. I keep joking that after 25 years as a priest I figured that it was about time that I learned what I am suppose to be doing. In reality I am going on this sabbatical because the internal fire within me just continues to grow. I would like to share why I believe this is. WHY I BELIEVE THIS IS. I BELIEVE THE MAIN REASON IS BECAUSE IN MY MINISTRY I HAVE THE ABILITY TO WITNESS THE JOURNEY OF SO MANY OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. SOME OF THESE BROTHERS AND SISTERS AMAZE ME BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ARE ABLE TO HANDLE THE CROSSES THAT THEY ARE ASKED TO CARRY BECAUSE OF THEIR FAITH. AND THEN I AM SAD TO SAY THAT IT IS SO PAINFUL TO WITNESS SOMEONE CARRY A CROSS WITHOUT THE GRACE OF KNOWING GOD’S PRESENCE IN THEIR LIVES. AND THUS I BELIEVE THAT THE INTERNAL FIRE COMES FROM THE DESIRE TO HELP SO MANY OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO DO NOT KNOW THE GREAT JOY AND HOPE THAT GOD IS OFFERING TO US. IT IS MY HOPE THAT THIS TIME AWAY WILL GIVE ME SOME TOOLS TO HELP ME TO BETTER DO THIS. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME AND THOSE WHO I HOPE WILL BE ASSISTED. MY PLAN IS TO CONTINUE THESE REFLECTION WHILE IN ROME. SEE YOU IN ROME. GOD’S CONTINUED PEACE! Fr. Yvon
in last weeks’ reflection I reflected on the importance of sharing the Gift of Faith which has hopefully served as the foundation of your life. Today I would like to reflect on the sad truth that in the past this Gift of Faith hasn’t always been presented as a Gift and thus it has been received more like a bad tasting pill. For these individuals being a child of the Church did not bring joy, but abuse. And thus the Gift of Faith, as it was presented, was something that they could not wait to walk away from. If this was your experience, I am sorry. It is not what God intended. If this wasn’t your experience then let us pray for our brothers and sisters who deserve to know the Blessings our Faith has come to share with us.
God’ continued Peace,
the beginning of September means the beginning of a new year of Religious Education, a new year of sharing the Gift of Faith! I would like to reflect on why I believe that this is vital to our lifetime happiness. To do this I would like to use the analogy of a contractor building a house. All contractors know that you need a solid foundation in order to ensure that the house is structurally sound. I believe that the same is true with our life – our Faith foundation has to be strong. Thus I would like to ask you to think for a moment, regardless of where you are in your faith life now, how has your faith formed you and made you who you are today? I hope that it was the gift that your parents and friends shared with you. What if they hadn’t? What would you miss? Let us share the Gift so that the next generation doesn’t miss it either.
God’s continued Peace,
Dear friends, as we get ready to celebrate Labor Day I began wondering what the history of this National Holiday was. In 1885 a movement began to create a day that is dedicated to the social and economic achievement of American workers. It pays tribute to the contribution workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well being of our country. This is all worth celebrating but I would like to take a moment to high light what I believe to be important and that is that every, and I mean every, task that we perform has value and worth not just because of the economic benefit it creates, but because it has the ability to make the world a better place for others and ourselves. It has the ability to help others to know and accept the dignity that is within them. Each task that we do, big or small, can help others know God’s and our love for them. This means that no task is meaningless. This is worth celebrating.
God’s continued Blessing! Fr. Yvon
