One of my favorite parts of Lent are the Stations of the Cross. I believe that there are several reasons for this. I would like to share a couple of them. The first is the memory of my mom and I going to St. Mary’s in Newport during the Friday’s of Lent to pray the Stations with the Community. It is a memory that I hold onto because even though my mom has been dead for almost 23 years each Lent she is with me as we pray the Stations of the Cross. The second reason the Stations of the Cross are a favorite part of Lent is that each Station has something wonderful to offer to us in our spiritual journey. My favorite Station is the 6th Station where we see Veronica wiping the face of Jesus. This Station is powerful for two reasons. The first being that Veronica did not let her fear of the soldiers stop her when she saw Jesus in need, and second she reminds us that when we help a brother and sister in need we are helping Jesus himself. May this Lenten Season help all of us follow Veronica’s example.
